New, More Secure Blog

I am upgrading the security of Virginia’s blog. It will now be located in a different folder ( /blog instead of /Blog). The old /Blog folder will soon be deleted. The new blog will require that viewers use a password.

I “tweaked” WordPress to make the new blog more secure. If you want to know how to make your WordPress site a little more secure, email me at paul@paultuttle.us .

The blog is also protected by membership management software. It will now require an email address and password to login. This way we can feel somewhat freer to post information with less fear of it being used against us (robberies, ID theft, etc.).

Almost anyone who knows Virginia or me can “join”.

Steps to Join

1. Ask one of us for the “coupon” (a word/phrase). The high “price” you see to join is just to deter strangers.

2. Then login to www.virginiatuttle.com/blog .

3. A little bit down from the top you will see:

“Not a member yet? Sign up here.

Click on “here. ”

4. Enter your email address and hit “submit.”
5. Enter your first & last name (required). Your telephone number is optional.
6. Enter the “coupon” word in the space and hit “update.” The “price” will change to free.
7. Check off that you agree to the terms
8. Click to get membership free.
9. You can save the “thank-you” page or wait for an email that has all the the log-in details.

Happy Birthday!

Wednesday

Today is Virginia’s birthday.

I brought her balloons. The balloon guy figured out someone was sick on her birthday as I purchased both a “Happy Birthday” and two “Get Well” balloons.

Her brothers John and Mike visited at the same time I did.

Update: Her doctors have been watching her kidney function which was somewhat worrisome. They adjusted her meds and are limiting her “free water” intake to bring up her sodium. She also ended up needing 2 units of blood.

The new attending doctor gave a report saying three more days on high powered IV antibiotic medication and then switch her to oral pills so she can go home. Then she would probably “rehab” (at home ?) and be back on her feet and work as she can tolerate.

Meanwhile she was feeling well enough to have me bring her curlers which she out in her hair.

Virginia Goes to Portland Adventist Hospital

I had Wednesday (yesterday) off from work. Virginia was still not feeling well all day Wednesday, her leg got redder and more painful. I called her doctor’s office and told them we were coming in. We arrived at about 11:30.

He took one look at her leg and said “How about staying with us for a couple of days?”

He arranged a direct admit and I wheeled her over to room 3211.

They said cellulitis is “the most painful condition.” They started her on morphine for pain within the first 1-2 hours. She rated her pain as about “a twenty” on a scale of 0-10!

Virginia Goes to TCH Emergency Department

Today Virginia had chills, fever and vomiting. I left work at lunch and ended up transporting her to Tuality’s E.D. Just before leaving we discovered the very beginnings of cellulitis. Her right leg (from ankle to knee) was swollen and starting to get red.

I took her home eight hours later with an oral antibiotic and orders for Tylenol.

Virginia at Work

Virginia went back to work in late May 2007. She started at 4 hours and gradually advanced to 6 hours per night by about the start of January 2008. She is still at 6 hours per night.

She is driving and quilting. She even goes on trips around town on her own.

Quilt of Holes – Inspirational

As I faced my Maker at the last judgment, I knelt before the Lord along with all the other souls.

Before each of us laid our lives like the squares of a quilt in many piles; an angel sat before each of us sewing our quilt squares together into a tapestry that is our life.

But as my angel took each piece of cloth off the pile, I noticed how ragged and empty each of my squares was. They were filled with giant holes. Each square was labeled with a part of my ife that had been difficult, the challenges and temptations I was faced with in every day life. I saw hardships that I endured, which were the largest holes of all.

I glanced around me. Nobody else had such squares. O there than a tiny hole here and there, the other tapestries were filled with rich color and the bright hues of worldly fortune. I gazed upon my own life and was disheartened.

My angel was sewing the ragged pieces of cloth together, threadbare and empty, like binding air.

Finally the time came when each life was to be displayed, held up to the light, the scrutiny of truth. The others rose; each in turn, holding up their tapestries. So filled their lives had been. My angel looked upon me, and nodded for me to rise.

My gaze dropped to the ground in shame. I hadn’t had all the earthly
fortunes. I had love in my life, and laughter. But there had also been
trials of illness, and wealth, and false accusations that took from me my world, as I knew it. I had to start over many times. I often struggled with the temptation to quit, only to somehow muster the strength to pick up and begin again. I spent many nights on my knees in prayer, asking for help and guidance in my life. I had often been held up to ridicule, which I endured painfully, each time offering it up to the Father in hopes that I would not melt within my skin beneath the judgmental gaze of those who unfairly judged me.

And now, I had to face the truth. My life was what it was, and I had to
accept it for what it was.

I rose and slowly lifted the combined squares of my life to the light.

An awe-filled gasp filled the air. I gazed around at the others who stared at me with wide eyes.

Then, I looked upon the tapestry before me. Light flooded the many holes, creating an image, the face of Christ. Then our Lord stood before me, with warmth and love in His eyes. He said, “Every time you gave over your life to Me, it became My life, My hardships, and My struggles.

Each point of light in your life is when you stepped aside and let Me shine through, until there was more of Me than there was of you.”

May all our quilts be threadbare and worn, allowing Christ to shine through!

God determines who walks into your life….it’s up to you to decide who you let walk away, who you let stay, and who you refuse to let go.”

Working 6 hours

Virginia has advanced from working 4 hours a night (starting in late May 2007) to 6 hours a night in January 2008.

She has actually advanced more than that seems. At first she tolerated 3 hours OK and survived the fourth hour. I drove her to and from work. She was very tired after each night’s work. She finally started driving herself to and from work. She had to rest after working before she could drive home. She gradually started making trips to Winco grocery on the way home.

She resumed going to the quilt shops. Her favorite local shop is Fanno Creek Calico’s. The women have classes and get together to sew.

She used to be the designated driver everywhere the two of us went together by automobile. No alcohol involved, she just designated herself the driver unless I am by myself! With this foot ordeal, I did the driving everywhere at first (over these last several years). She now drives a little over half the time or better. Her commute is longer than mine. On most occassions, she is able to drive “long” trips like to the doctor or to Fanno Creek Calicos. “Long” meaning 10-25 miles.

So she has come a long ways. She started out working 4 hours, being “dead” tired and unable to drive home (I picked her up at 1am). She now works 6 hours, drives to and from work, and can go shopping (with a motorized cart) afterwards.

Back to Work!

Virginia went back to work Wednesday night (11pm to 3:00 am). She is medically approved to work 2-4 hours per night. She will work up to a full schedule as soon as she can well tolerate the activity.

She worked the full four hours Wednesday night. She plans to go back Thursday night and then she should be off the next two nights. Then she will return to work her first full week of Sunday through Thursday night.
